Skin Resurfacing
Advances in the development of Laser Skin
Resurfacing have forever changed the way we perceive our appearance.
Though getting older isn't a choice, with this dynamic new procedure,
looking older is. For many people, laser skin resurfacing is now the
preferred choice for eliminating or reducing:
- fine facial lines, such as crow's feet and smile lines;
- age spots and hyperpigmentation;
- sun damaged skin; and
- acne scars and other skin irregularities.
Laser skin resurfacing can replace these common skin problems with smooth
new skin that offers an invigorating appearance.
What Is Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing is one of the leading cosmetic procedures in the
United States. The process utilizes a laser to minimize the appearance of
lines and wrinkles, as well as improve the overall texture of the skin.
Board Certified Dermatologist, Babar K. Rao, MD, FAAD has many years of
experience in producing exquisite results with laser skin resurfacing.
How Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Work?
Lasers work by emitting a specialized light that is passed through the
skin and preferentially absorbed by the water in the damaged collagen of
our skin. This action allows the laser light to ablate very fine layers of
skin, diminishing the look of the wrinkle and other unwanted textures. The
older, wrinkled collagen in the skin is remodeled into newer skin. As new
cells form in the healing process, the skin is smoother and softer.
Several lasers and light sources are available today for skin resurfacing.
Why Choose Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Laser skin resurfacing offers patients many benefits. The procedure is
truly "incisionless", provides consistent results, offers the surgeon
precise control, and can delay or eliminate the need for the more invasive
face lift surgery, with a faster recovery time.
Is the Laser Resurfacing Procedure Painful?
During the laser resurfacing procedure you will be given either a topical
or local anesthetic; sedation can also be provided. After the procedure,
most describe the discomfort as a sunburn.
How Soon does it take to see Results with Laser Resurfacing?
Because you will heal over a period of several weeks, your final results
may not be seen until then. You will continue to improve as your skin
heals, and new collagen regenerates filling in the lines and wrinkles.
Results continue to improve for months.
What are the Side Effects of Laser Resurfacing?
The side effects from laser resurfacing are minimal. Board Certified
Dermatologist, Babar K. Rao, MD, FAAD, will review the entire laser
resurfacing procedure with you in detail.
