Skin Infections

There are many types of skin infections: fungal,
bacterial, viral, and parasitis. Board Certified Dermatologist, Babar K.
Rao, MD, FAAD, can diagnosis and treat any of your skin infection.
Bacterial infections include "Impetigo" or
Staph infections or Strep infections.
Fungal infections include "jock itch", "athlete's foot" and ringworm
(NOT a worm!).
Viral infections include warts and herpes (including "cold sores").
Most skin infections (like most infections) are passed person to person by
direct contact or by contact with contaminated articles.
Common signs of a skin infection include:
* Fever, chills, sweating, headaches, muscle aches and fatigue are
symptoms common to many infections.
* Diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps, gas pains and dehydration
may result from an intestinal infection.
* Coughing, sneezing, chest pain, sore throat, congestion and watery eyes
are signs of a respiratory infection.
* Painful and frequent urination, bloody or foul-smelling urine, or
vaginal itching may occur with a bladder infection.
* Rash, sores, inflammation, itching skin, redness, blisters or pimples
may develop because of a skin infection.
* Localized pain, irritation or tenderness may occur with infections of
the ears, eyes, mouth, teeth or gums.
Intense anal itchiness may accompany a worm infection in the lower
intestines.
* Arthritic pain and inflammation, often localized, may signal a joint
infection.
